A chronicle of my activities is available in the NEWS section.
WELCOME to my personal academic website. I am an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Information, University of Toronto. As an interdisciplinary social scientist devoted to the field of Library and Information Science (LIS), I conduct research in three related areas: 1) information and the "higher things in life" that are pleasurable and profound; 2) visual and creative research methods; and 3) the history and theory of LIS. A selection of writings within these themes and many full-text PDFs are available in RESEARCH AND PUBLICATIONS. You can survey my publications as a Google Scholar profile or read a jargon-free statement, here.
In 2021, I taught myself to make videos and launched the educational YouTube channel, INFIDEOS (also at right). My switch to multimedia creation has been a thrilling and joyful adventure. INFIDEOS' purpose is to disseminate the ideas of Information Science to the world. In 2022, INFIDEOS won the ALISE/Pratt-Severn Faculty Innovation Award. Presently, I am devoted to video-making and publish new videos, monthly, on INFIDEOS. |
I am the creator of the YouTube channel, INFIDEOS, which contains many videos about Library and Information Science. |
At the Master of Information program in the Faculty of Information, I mostly teach graduate students in the Library and Information Science concentration. On the TEACHING page you will find a list of my courses, syllabi, course evaluations, and reading guides; my teaching philosophy; and references for my writings on teaching. A separate area on ADVISING recognizes the former and current doctoral and masters students I have supervised.
Both my research and teaching aim to be an imaginative forms of INTERVENTION in the field of LIS, through unorthodox projects such as my YouTube channel, INFIDEOS; Metatheoretical Snowman; Welcome to Library and Information Science; and the iSquare Research Program. Along these same lines, a MULTIMEDIA area provides links to websites, webinars, and videos I have created over the years. Thank you for visiting!
